With the Wind

With the Wind, is a living journal of my trip travelling across Canada with a complete stranger. Back in 2014, I was working full time as a residential cleaner. While in one of the homes the resident was there and moving out, we were aiding him in cleaning his apartment for inspection. I have the tendency to make conversation with everyone and found out he was roading tripping across Canada for work. This information felt like a spark to me and I told him, if I had the opportunity to do that, I totally would. And his response was 'well...what are you doing this summer?'. I told him not to tempt me, that I'd say yes, but he was very serious in his offer. .. Which left me asking 'When do you leave?' he said 'Five hours from now'. I held my breath, my stomach dropped and I said Okay. I finished my shift, I packed my bag and my 35mm film camera that I had no knowledge of using, said goodbye to my family and off we were.

The 35mm didn't leave my neck that entire summer, I used it as an extension of my being. I used it for company, I used it as a journal, I used it for fun, and for connections. I shot over 36 rolls of film. This series is the collection of my favourites from that summer. The process of using the 35mm camera during this summer was the beginning of my passion for photography. I fell completely inlove with the sort of freedom you get when you have a camera in your hand. Honestly, I knew there was no turning back for me after that summer.
